Content creators can harness the power of DITA in XDocs across multiple components. The flexibility inherent in the XDocs system allows creators to choose an authoring tool that suits their needs. The robust nature of the XDocs system handles structured content, as well as unstructured content, in a dexterous manner allowing content creators to collaborate and maximize the efficiency of the content and of their time.

XDocs Explorer
Content creators use this powerful desktop application to view and manage the tasks and files that are assigned to them in Workflow. XDocs Explorer allows content teams to collaborate, to view and manage DITA, other XML, and non-XML content (such as Word files, image files, and other file types), and to perform link management tasks. Additionally, users can import and export content, view DITAmaps, run task and status reports, search for content, publish, and much more.

Connected XML Editors
The XDocs system is tightly integrated with several XML editors, and the system installs and ships with a site license of XMLmind’s XML Editor (XXE). In addition to the XXE editor, XDocs is tightly integrated with Oxygen, Frame Maker, and XMetaL; however, these XML editors do not ship with XDocs and are purchased separately.

These tightly integrated editors allow content creators to access and perform actions on files in the XDocs repository directly from the editor. Furthermore, through the off-line edit feature, XDocs can work with any XML editor beyond the ones named above.

Other editors
From XDocs Explorer, you can launch a non-XML editor (such as Excel or Photoshop) on a non-XML file, edit the file, and check the file back in to the repository with your edits saved, saving time for the content creation team.
