Medical device manufacturer cuts documentation costs with XDocs

The Company

Vivisonic

The Situation

A medical device manufacturer, with technologies that deliver audiology diagnostic solutions, was in the Research and Development stage. They were preparing to get their product to market.

The Challenge

As many start-ups discover, making submissions to the FDA is long, tedious, and costly. As well, the document accuracy is critical to expedite FDA acceptance. The author discovered that the expense of managing documentation in traditional publishing tools was significant, and the ability to re-use content was virtually impossible.

The Solution

The company decided to adopt XDocs as a way to publish five types of documents from a single content source. By combining the single-sourced document with conditional publishing, and using the DITA open toolkit with out-of-the-box bookmap styling, the company was able to produce the entire set of manuals required for submission. In a single-author environment, the successful delivery of multiple documents from a single source provides to be an easy-to-maintain, affordable solution.
